Lochhouses - The Farm

Lochhouses is mainly an arable farm with rolling fields of barley, wheat and market garden vegetables inland from its magnificent beach, woodland, lochs and wetland. There is so much diversity for you and, if you have children of any age, for them to enjoy here, whether you are looking for the quiet country holiday with no distracting activities other than a walk along the beach or through the woods and sitting round a bonfire at night, or if you want a “farming hands-on” holiday for those of you interested in helping out with our hens in the hen house, ducks and our lop-eared bunnies as well as bottle-feeding our new lambs in spring !
Pony Lovers
This is heaven for horse and pony-lovers with miles of beach and woodland to stroll or gallop along !
Apart from our own horses and mini Shetland ponies on site – our next door farm runs a trekking centre with horses for all levels of riding and lovely little ponies to cater for the mini-riders too ! (See "Things To Do").
Bird Lovers
For the bird lovers, you will be able to spot from your tent, the multitude of wild birds which flock to our natural sand dunes such as -
- oystercatchers
- wagtails
- curlews
- lapwing
- skylark
- wild pheasants and wild grey partridges which we are trying to re-establish in the UK and won the award in 2007 for the most successful habitat !
When you stroll along to our wetland and lochs you’ll be able to spot wild ducks, swans, geese, moorhens, and little coots.
If you have forgotten to bring your binoculars, don’t worry we have some to hire at the Farm.

Food Lovers
You will also have a gastronomic time (!) as we can supply Lochhouses’ own grown potatoes (for which we won the prize for best crop of potatoes in East Lothian in 2006), turnips, leeks and brussel sprouts to accompany our own pheasant, duck and venison from our woods as well as crab and lobster from the sea in front. We now have our own stock of home made oven/stove ready meals (visit our Farm Store).
In autumn, you can pick your own brambles (blackberries) and wild raspberries which are all over our woodland and hedgerows – so you can make your own puddings or jam ! as well, of course, as dig your own potatoes and turnips.
We have had a lot of fun setting up the tents and planning this new holiday experience and we look forward to meeting you.
Kindest Regards,
Robert & Michele
